Spaghetti Squash with Tomatoes and Capers

File this meal under “healthy, quick and easy” – the perfect trio, right?

Spaghetti Squash Final_2
After a long day at work, I am usually on the hunt for the dish that will take the least amount of time to prepare. This one was definitely among the quickest – and healthiest – I’ve made in a while. For the sake of full disclosure, I will warn you: spaghetti squash is not easy to split. Use caution when attempting to cut into it. Who knew making dinner could double for strength training? [Read more...]

Race Ready: 5 Tips for Better Preparation

Running Shoes Header

To someone who has never participated in a long distance race, the start of training can feel slightly overwhelming. My head spun more than a few times last year as I worked to select an appropriate training program, and my legs ached at the thought of all the miles I’d have to cover before lining up at the start of my very first half marathon. Now, as I prepare to embark on my second 13.1, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about my inaugural race: what went right, what went wrong and how I could have better prepared. In an effort to finish stronger this time around (sub-2 hours!) I’ve compiled a list of valuable lessons I will carry with me.  [Read more...]

Let’s Get Cooking With Lorna Jane

Overnight Oats with Berries and Yogurt
As many of you know, I have two pretty important reasons for upping my fitness game these days: I am training for a half marathon in October and I’m getting married in May. While I have been working out frequently, it’s essential to keep in mind that fitness is not exclusive to exercise. Being “fit” also means maintaining a balanced diet and incorporating healthy choices into your everyday life. [Read more...]

Battling the Hills of San Francisco to Help Find a Cure

TNT LLS collage

It’s time to start training, ya’ll! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I ran my first half marathon last October. While I was uber proud of myself for finishing (and beating my goal!) the competitor in me was hardly satisfied with my 2:03 finish. I was so close to running a sub-two hour half, I could taste it. I’m so excited that I will have the opportunity to try again this October – but this time for a great cause. I will be joining the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as part of Team in Training to run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco! [Read more...]

Yoga Anytime, Anywhere

Yoga Mat and iPadDisclosure: I received a free trial of My YogaWorks in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If I had a quarter for every time I said “I wish I could figure out how to fit yoga into my schedule,” then well, I’d probably have a crisp Lincoln to throw down for a latte. In all seriousness, I love yoga – I find that practicing consistently helps me in all facets of my life. I am a stronger runner, I have improved concentration at work and I feel so much happier at home. The only problem is, it’s often really difficult for me to fit a regular practice into my busy schedule. That’s why, when MyYogaWorks gave me the opportunity to try their online classes, I happily agreed. [Read more...]

A Blueberry Lavender Lemonade Cocktail to Sweeten Up Mother’s Day

Lavender Blueberry Lemon_2

Happy Friday! We have quite the weekend upon us, ladies and gents. This is our opportunity to celebrate all of the wonderful moms in our lives and recognize all that they have done and continue to do for us. I personally would give my right arm to be with my own mom on Sunday – but sadly, she is 2,500 miles away. I definitely lucked out when it came to the whole mom thing – mine has taught me so many incredible lessons over the years about working hard and being kind to others. Plus, she is super supportive of all my crazy endeavors, and is somehow always available when I need to vent. I know this is no Kevin Durant speech (but seriously, who could top that?), but I hope she knows how awesome she is! [Read more...]

Those of you who read my MIMM post this week have already heard me gush about the local fitness brands I had the opportunity to meet last Saturday at “A New Way to Namaste.” One of those was Rebel West, a Los Angeles-based business that turns recycled boho and eco-chic fabrics into stylish and comfortable headbands.

Brown Bag Tuesday: Black Bean Quinoa Salad

Black Bean Quinoa
You know you’ve  succeeded at cooking when you serve up a healthy dish and get two thumbs up from boys. That’s what I experienced this past weekend when I threw this together for Tyler and my little brother (side note: my brother looked at the quinoa and asked if I was serving him fish eggs).

MIMM: A New Way to Namaste

Happy Cinco de Mayo, friends! Cheers to a fantastic week ahead. Per usual, this was a busy weekend. As my gift to you, I’ll spare you the boring details and focus on the juicy events of Saturday. You’re welcome.

I woke up earlier than any human should on a Saturday to work (you know, that whole day job thing). Thank goodness for caffeine.

May Run Mix

Run Playlist

It’s no secret that I love music. I compile a playlist for nearly every occasion: workouts, road trips, music for working – the list is endless (find me on Spotify for said playlists). I believe that a simple song has the power to turn around an entire day. While music has been scientifically proven to affect our mood, did you know it also has the ability to improve our workouts? That’s right, folks – that beat can actually trick your brain into feeling less tired. [Read more...]
